dcbel Inc. (www.dcbel.energy) is a growing company operating in multiple countries striving to develop technology and design products that will make clean, efficient, and sustainable energy accessible to all — because everyone in the world deserves energy without compromise.

Our flagship product, the dcbel home energy station, is small wall mounted device that gives everyone ownership over their energy supply by using solar power to charge their EV and home, unlocking their EV’s battery for backup power (V2H), and optimizing the energy flow between their solar panels, EVs, backup battery and the grid.

The opportunity

We are searching for a self-motivated Senior Power Electronics Engineer with a proven track record to design and develop power electronics for dcbel’s suite of products.

Main responsibilities

  • Design and build hardware of power electronics converters for use in dcbel products.
  • End to end ownership of hardware – from specification to design, prototype, reliability validation and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and firmware engineering teams to design, validate and manufacture power converters.
  • Collaborate on architecture and modeling of existing and new power converter topologies that achieve better performance.

Key requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant hands-on hardware experience in power converter design (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent; Masters or PhD preferred.
  • Experience with high voltage power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET’s, Diodes), gate drive and protection circuit design.
  • Experience with UL and/or CE electrical safety requirements and certification, and EMC requirements relevant to the design of power converters.
  • Experience with design of analog/digital circuits and micro-processors.
  • Experience in supervision of PCB layout for minimal stray inductance and capacitance, placement strategies for better manufacturability, power/signal plane definition and EMC optimization.
  • Excellent understanding of power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
  • Excellent understanding of switching waveforms, semi-conductor losses and experience with loss modeling.
  • Excellent understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (Electrolytic, film and Ceramic) used for power conversion.
  • Experience with motor control and robotics is an asset.
  • Familiar with schematic capture and power converter circuit simulation tools.
  • Proficiency with basic EE tools (Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators etc.).

Bonus skills

  • Experience designing grid tied photovoltaic inverters according to UL 1741SA/SB an asset.
  • Experience designing bi-directional DC Electric Vehicle chargers according to UL 9741 and UL 2231 an asset.

Profile

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and strong EQ.
  • Autonomous, have ease in learning, good teammate, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
