Our flagship product, the dcbel Home Energy Station, is a small wall mounted device that gives everyone ownership over their energy supply by using solar power to charge their EV and home, unlocking their EV’s battery for backup power (V2H), and optimizing the energy flow between their solar panels, EVs, backup battery and the grid.

The opportunity

dcbel is looking to hire a Lead for the Engineering QA team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing, improving, and maintaining our firmware/hardware QA infrastructure for our growing product line. The candidate for this position must have strong quality process management capability and expertise in software and hardware engineering.

The Lead of Engineering QA will also be responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of procedures for the testing and evaluation of engineering devices in accordance with applicable product specifications and industry and/or governmental standards.

Main responsibilities

    • Manage and participate in the development of test plans; writing tests procedures, executing tests, writing test reports, and creating/tracking software problem reports.
    • Oversee the design and implementation of manual, automated and semi-automated test equipment and software to enhance efficiency and coverage.
    • Design, review and optimize the acceptance test procedures to ensure coverage of system requirements.
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for test procedures, systems, and equipment.
    • Identify and implement improvements in test coverage, cycle time reduction, scalability, and overall quality.
    • Regularly report on the progress of test development projects and maintain cross-functional coordination to address technical challenges.
    • Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports and design descriptions as required.
    • Participation in formal software qualification or certification activities with third party and/or governmental standards.
    • Review and update of documents such as user manual, integration guide and test report for different products.
    • Participation in the definition of requirements and in the traceability of requirements from definition to test reports.

    Key requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in computer/electrical engineering or other significative experience.
    • Experience in leading a software quality insurance team.
    • Experience in planning and implementing a quality assurance system (processes, documentation, tools, automation, etc.).
    • Experience with the electrical industry and government regulations/standards.
    • Experience in quality assurance of embedded systems.
    • Experience with software test frameworks (Robot, Pytest, Lava, ...) and associated data format (xUnit).
    • Familiarity with electrical equipment and/or electronics.
    • Familiarity with a broad range of test equipment and test methodologies.
    • Proficient in the principles of automation and interfacing with equipment and products.
    • Understanding of data acquisition systems and protocols (GPIB, SCPI, ...).
    • Knowledge of system safety and regulatory standards.
    • Knowledge of requirements management tools, problem tracking tools, configuration management tools and test management tools (XRAY, R4J, JIRA, ...).
    • Familiar with the field of electrical energy and renewables.
    • Familiar with software development processes (Agile, CI/CD).

    Bonus skills

    • Bilingualism (English and French written and spoken) is an asset.
