The opportunity

dcbel is looking to hire an Electronics Lab technician to work in our Engineering team. Reporting to the Lead Test and certification Engineer the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the Engineering team with all testing and debugging of electronics boards, electro-mechanical systems using standard test equipment and analyze results to evaluate need for adjustment.

Main responsibilities

  • Assemble, test, or maintain circuitry or and electro-mechanical systems, according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, or knowledge of electronics, using hand or power tools.
  • Replace defective components or parts, using hand tools, precision instrument and the soldering station.
  • Modify, maintain, or repair electronics equipment or systems to ensure proper functioning.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units and electro-mechanical systems, applying knowledge of theory and components.
  • Set up and operate specialized or standard test equipment to diagnose, test, or analyze the performance of electronic components, assemblies, or systems.
  • Integrate software or hardware components, using computer, microprocessor, or control architecture.
  • Research equipment or component needs, sources, competitive prices, delivery times, or ongoing operational costs.
  • Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
  • Procure parts and maintain inventory and related documentation.
  • Select electronics equipment, components, or systems to meet functional specifications.
  • Inspect newly installed equipment to adjust or correct operating problems.
  • Provide user applications or engineering support or recommendations for new or existing equipment with regard to installation, upgrades, or enhancements.
  • Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment
  • Write reports or record data on testing techniques, laboratory equipment, or specifications to assist engineers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance or calibration of equipment or systems.

Key requirements

  • College Diploma or higher in Electronics or related field
  • At least 5 years experience in a technical laboratory using electronical and mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

Bonus skills

  • Bilingual English and French written and spoken.
