Technical Program Manager – Release Readiness

Position Summary

The Technical Program Manager (TPM) for Release Readiness supports the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of product releases across cross‑functional engineering, product, and go‑to‑market teams. This role requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to manage scope, schedules, risks, and dependencies across multiple teams.

The TPM ensures that release readiness activities follow established processes, program milestones, and governance expectations. The role focuses on driving clarity, facilitating execution, and coordinating stakeholders to ensure that releases meet quality and timeline commitments.

Primary Responsibilities

Program & Project Execution

  • Build and maintain project plans, including scope, schedules, risks, dependencies, and communication plans.
  • Support product lifecycle processes and ensure required artifacts, checkpoints, and milestones are completed.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment on release schedules, deliverables, and risks.
  • Track progress against plan, identify roadblocks early, and drive mitigation or escalation paths as appropriate.
  • Manage intake, requirements gathering, and change requests using established Release Readiness processes.

Communication & Reporting

  • Prepare and deliver clear status updates for project teams and leadership, adjusting communication for each audience.
  • Support Executive‑level program reviews through concise presentations, data‑driven summaries, and risk visibility.
  • Facilitate program meetings, including weekly status meetings, risk reviews, and readiness checkpoints.

Process & Operational Excellence

  • Conduct retrospectives and incorporate feedback to improve processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Maintain documentation (charters, schedules, risk logs, decision logs, readiness checklists, etc.).
  • Collaborate across Program Management, Engineering, Product, Release Engineering, and GTM functions to drive predictability and transparency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Release Readiness frameworks, templates, dashboards, and communication mechanisms.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support other program management initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform duties in an office or remote environment; may occasionally require after‑hours coordination during release timelines.
  • Some domestic travel may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills across written, verbal, and presentation formats, tailored for audiences from engineers to leaders.
  • Ability to create structured project plans using work‑breakdown techniques and clearly defined milestones.
  • Competence in identifying risks, analyzing impacts, and proposing mitigation paths.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate cross‑functional meetings, drive alignment, and document decisions.
  • Proficiency managing projects in Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid environments—particularly those blending software and hardware components.
  • Ability to influence without authority and maintain positive working relationships across diverse teams.
  • Working knowledge of product development lifecycles and cross‑functional handoffs (Engineering, Product, QA, Release, Support, Marketing, etc.).
  • Strong proficiency with MS Project, Smartsheet, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with portfolio/project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, AHA!, Jira, Azure DevOps) is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 4–6 years of experience in technical program management, project management, or release/program coordination within technology organizations
  • Experience working with engineering, product, QA, release engineering, and/or support teams
  • Experience leading or coordinating geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong understanding of software release processes, CI/CD pipelines, or complex build environments
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, risks, dependencies, and cross‑functional deliverables
  • Strong communication skills across written, verbal, and presentation formats
  • Proficiency with PM tools such as Smartsheet, SmartSheet, Jira/Azure DevOps, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • PMP, CSM, or equivalent certifications are preferred but not required
  • Experience supporting hardware/software product development is a plus
