SPARK Microsystems is looking for a motivated Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join his highly skilled and innovative Engineering group located in Montréal, Québec. With your expertise in hardware and firmware development, and systems integration, you will play a key role in defining, designing, and leading SPARK’s UWB embedded reference designs and demo applications (mice, audio headsets, speakers, proximity detection, ranging, IoT, etc.) in an Agile Scrum environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the end-to-end design process for embedded RF communication systems, from concept through to release, ensuring adherence to project timelines and delivering quality products.
  • Define system requirements and architecture for embedded platforms/systems.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Hardware, Software, QA Validation, ASIC, Marketing, and user experience experts, to ensure alignment across all design aspects and to define product requirements and specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership and challenge hardware/software designs to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Conduct and lead design reviews, ensuring compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor junior team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Validate system functionality through close collaboration with the validation and certification teams.
  • Identify and proactively resolve technical system-level issues related to power management, signal integrity, RF, and EMC, while maintaining a focus on product performance and reliability.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in embedded product design, actively contributing to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems design, including RF and hardware integration.
  • In-depth understanding of microcontroller architectures, digital and analog, and communication protocols (RF, UART, I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet).
  • Proven experience in RF systems design and integration (e.g. Bluetooth, UWB, Zigbee, WiFi).
  • Strong knowledge of embedded software and hardware development life cycles and principles, without being directly involved in coding.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for test (DFT) principles.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a keen analytical mindset and a drive to find creative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Must be Bilingual English/French: this role requires to work regularly with co-workers, subcontractors and customers located globally.
  • Understands and deals well with fast development cycles.

The Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in the consumer electronics, RF, IoT, or Audio industry is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium and Kicad.
  • Experience with RF modelling tools, such as Ansys HFSS and SBR+.
  • Experience in C/C++ coding.
  • Experience in hardware design and debugging.
