About the Role

Come lead a high-impact engineering team at Vantage, and own the backbone that powers our platform.

In your role as Engineering Manager, you’ll helm the vision of our backend platform and data pipelines, improve the reliability of our systems with clear SLO’s, accelerate development, and scale our cloud operations.

You’ll also be there to coach engineers of all levels, manage sprints, and oversee a close partnership with our Site Reliability Engineering team.

Our core platform runs in Azure with footprints in AWS and GCP, and a stack that includes Python, Django, Celery, RabbitMQ, Redis, MySQL, Postgres, Snowflake, and React TypeScript.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3 to 5+ years managing software engineering teams.

  • 7 to 10+ years total engineering experience shipping and operating backend systems.

  • Proven success in leading platform and data pipeline work that serves multiple teams.

  • Strong cloud fundamentals with Azure or AWS.

  • Solid backend experience, including B2B API design and integration.

  • Experience leading observability and on-call initiatives, including establishing and meeting SLOs and SLIs, distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry, logging, alerting and post-incident reviews .

  • Experience with data pipelines: design, scheduling, and operation of ETL or ELT with Snowflake and object storage.

  • Experience working in a security-minded environment, having worked with concepts such as Least privilege, key rotation, vulnerability management, and data protection.

  • Track record of hiring, mentoring, and performance-managing engineers across levels.

  • Clear written and verbal communication. Comfortable collaborating with Product, Data, and Security.

Preferred Experience Also Includes

  • Experience with Celery, RabbitMQ, Redis, MySQL, Postgres, and Django.

  • Experience with AWS EMR and S3.

  • Experience with Snowflake performance tuning, warehouse sizing, and cost governance.

  • Experience managing SREs.

  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps.

Role Responsibilities

  • People leadership: Hire, mentor, and grow a mixed-level team with clear goals and regular feedback

  • Software Delivery: Ensure predictable delivery with clear scope, milestones, and acceptance criteria; enforce quality gates and rollback plans; coordinate cross-team dependencies and cutovers

  • Reliability: Define SLOs and error budgets; govern resilience practices. Be hands-on during high-severity incidents when needed

  • Developer velocity: Own SDLC and CI/CD governance, shorten feedback loops, streamline releases, and reduce engineering toil.

  • Data platform: Own ETL orchestration, data quality controls, and recovery playbooks

  • Cloud cost: Own budgets and cost governance. Drive cost-aware design and capacity reviews without performance regressions

  • Platform architecture: Set service and API standards, manage technical debt, lead design reviews, and direct performance tuning and scalability efforts.

  • Observability: Set standards for SLIs, tracing with OpenTelemetry, logging, alerting, dashboards, and runbooks. Ensure adoption across teams

  • Incident response: Lead on-call practices and incident command. Run post-incident reviews that produce preventive improvements

  • SRE partnership: Collaborate daily on reliability practices and tooling. Help define future reporting lines with leadership
