Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Customs Compliance Specialist to lead HS code classification and USMCA certification processes for our U.S. import and export activities. This role reports to the Director of Logistics.
This role will ensure accurate tariff classification, regulatory compliance, and optimization of duty programs while minimizing customs risk and exposure.
You will work cross-functionally with supply chain, engineering, procurement, finance, and external brokers to build a disciplined and scalable trade compliance process.
HS Code Classification & Governance
- Determine and validate HS tariff classifications for all imported and exported products
- Interpret U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) regulations and customs rulings
- Partner with engineering and product teams to understand product specifications for accurate classification
- Maintain classification database and documentation repository
- Support binding ruling requests when required
USMCA & Origin Compliance
- Analyze products for USMCA eligibility and origin determination
- Review Bills of Materials (BOMs) and supplier documentation
- Issue and maintain USMCA certifications
- Manage supplier solicitation process for origin statements
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting free trade agreements
Customs Risk & Audit Support
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations
- Support internal audits and broker reviews
- Identify risk exposure and implement corrective actions
- Maintain documentation required for customs audits
- Partner with brokers to resolve entry discrepancies and post-entry corrections
Process & Systems
- Improve HS classification workflows and internal controls
- Develop SOPs for classification and certification processes
- Provide training to internal stakeholders on trade compliance basics
- Support ERP integration of tariff codes and compliance controls
Qualifications
- 3–7+ years of experience in U.S. customs or trade compliance
- Strong experience with HS code classification under HTSUS
- Proven experience managing USMCA certification and origin analysis
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations
- Experience reviewing BOMs for origin qualification
- High attention to detail and structured documentation practices
