Your Role and Responsibilities:
As part of the Hardware Team in Toronto, you will take your hands-on experience in delivering high-performance electronic chip packaging solutions, and apply it to Xanadu’s cryogenic photon number resolving detector development. In the role of microelectronics packaging technician, you will be responsible for mounting and integrating the electronic components of our superconducting detectors and their readout systems. This will include a mix of electronic, mechanical, and optical component assembly with diagnostics and metrology on the assembled components. You will be involved in developing cutting-edge packaging techniques in the context of large-scale arrays cryogenic superconducting photon detectors.
The position is expected to be filled immediately.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc, BEng or higher in Electrical Engineering or related relevant field
- 2+ years experience working in an microelectronic packaging and modules
- Extensive experience with a variety of wire bonding tools and applications
- Experience in failure analysis techniques
- Experience in flip chip electronic die bonding
- Experienced in mechanical design and basic CAD tools such as Solidworks and fusion 360
- Experienced in soldering printed circuit board components
- Mechanical or product assembly
- Basic knowledge in the different material handling
- Detail-oriented with positive attitude towards work
- Highly motivated and eager to learn
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Working proficiency of Python programming
- Self-motivated, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with people of all disciplines on complex projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Understanding of requirements for mechanical and electronic components operating at cryogenic temperatures.
- Experience making laboratory measurements with an oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer etc.
- Experienced in operating vacuum equipment including scroll and turbo pumps, etc.
- Experience with splicing optical fibers.
- Basic knowledge in microscopy techniques.
- Knowledge of version control software and common software development practices in a team environment.
- Experience of working in clean room environments.
- Experience working with cryostats operating at or below 4 degrees Kelvin.
